Is it just me or is everyone still high on yesterdays festivities? What a lovely, lovely day it was for the new Duke & Duchess of Sussex! Amongst the Royals and celebrity glitterati; the hats, dresses & suits were a sight for royal fans and 'meh, not so bothered' types alike.
Relatively new to the helm at Givenchy, as the first ever female Artistic Director for the fashion house, the British designer Clare Waight Keller designed Megan Markle's custom wedding dress. An outsider going into the wedding but what a beautiful choice. My money was on Christopher Bailey at Burberry as his last farewell piece before his departure from the British brand but how wrong was I?
It was a much simpler choice than I was expecting (& possibly hoping for) but by all accounts suited Meghan's style. My favourite element had to be the gorgeous open bateau neckline. This led down into a beautifully sculpted waist and the dress was finished off with a five metre long veil with delicate embroidery representing the flora of each Commonwealth country.
To use the word of the moment, the Duchess and in fact the whole wedding allowed for a new modernity to royal proceedings and to be frank, I bloody loved it!
BUT THEN, this happened! Stella McCartney, I bow down to your fashion designing greatness! Dare I say it, I prefer The Duchess of Sussex's evening gown more than the actual wedding dress (can I say that?) This would be my idea of my actual wedding dress, I just don't have the words for how much I love this dress!
The question on every guests minds (I assume) is what on earth do you wear to a Royal blaady Wedding? Well I have to say everyone did a spot on job! Although there were just faaaar too many to choose from, here are my personal stand outs:
I always love anything Carey Mulligan wears as I think she has a really distinct style, of which I'm a huuuge fan. She looks so radiant in this Erdem floral dress. Paired with nude court shoes, just the perfect summer wedding attire in my book. If only I had the budget to copy this exact look but alas I don't seem to.
Amal Clooney basically looks amazing in anything she puts on (flashback to her own post wedding floral dress she wore to go on that boat thing, omg just dreamy) but for yesterdays nuptials it was Stella McCartney that did the honours with this vivid yellow number. If the front wasn't beautiful enough, the exquisite large bow detailing, on the back of this dress catapulted this to the top of my lust list! Huge applause to Stella on this one, exquisite!
I can't say I've watched Suits (I know, literally the only person in the world who hasn't) but I'm well informed that Abigail Spencer (left) is one of Meghan's co-stars. She's wearing this effortless Alessandra Rich polkadot dress from her SS18 Ready to Wear collection. I love the nod to eras past with the 40s vibe. What a lovely look for a summer wedding in the glorious sunshine yesterday brought!
Another co star chum, Sarah Rafferty wore Lanvin and I mean just LOOK AT THOSE BELL SLEEVES! By far one of my favourite outfits of the day. Love the colour, love the Phillip Treacy hat, love the detailing on the top of the sleeves; just love love love.
The opportunity to give the Gents a shout out cannot be passed on such an occasion, I mean this is the 21st century! The main man, Harry, of course looked as dapper as usual. And I've got to say I'm a massive fan of that beard, which apparently he had to passed by the Queen first, well it's thumbs up from me Harry! (sorry, Duke of Sussex!)
Hello, Tom Hardy in a Gucci navy three-piece! Perfect colour to co-ordinate with his gorgeous wife Charlotte Riley dressed in a lovely floral number by The Vampires Wife. Something about a man in a suit isn't there? Just so handsome it hurts.
It's amazing how a wedding can raise everyones spirits and I'm really hopeful for the couple's future within the Royal sphere. Unfortunately it's back to reality for me today with Uni work but it was lovely to escape for the weekend in a dream of Princes and Princesses; Duke & Duchesses, aw it's just like a Disney film, but without the bursting into song bit! And until I meet my Prince (ergh, puke emoji) I'll bask in the pure joy & happiness radiated yesterday.
